The Kansas Connection — Vintage Petroleum Art

Kansas has always punched above its weight in American petroleum history. Long before the Texas oil boom dominated the headlines, Kansas independent petroleum companies were competing fiercely for roadside business with bold branding, strong regional identity, and some of the most beautifully executed commercial art ever printed on a pump globe.

The brands in this collection were all Kansas-made — regional independents that served Kansas drivers, employed Kansas workers, and built Kansas communities during the golden age of American gasoline. Dog-On Good Gasoline from The Petroleum Products Co. — their circular badge with the proud Scottie dog. Tioga Gasoline out of Chanute. And Kanotex Aviation, whose bold starburst design featured the Lockheed Vega — the same aircraft Amelia Earhart flew on her record-breaking 1932 solo transatlantic flight.
