Two different companies sold gasoline under the Buffalo name, which is exactly the kind of tangled history that makes regional petroliana worth digging into. Westland Oil Company marketed Buffalo Gasoline with mascot "Billy Buffalo" across Montana and North Dakota starting in the late 1920s, while a separate Canadian operation kept the name alive north of the border for years after.

Printed on a soft, broken-in cotton twill cap with deliberate distressing built in from day one. Unstructured, low-profile construction with a curved visor, self-fabric hideaway strap, and metal D-ring for an adjustable fit. Each hat carries slight natural variation in distress and color, so no two wear in exactly the same way. Spot clean with warm water and dish soap; a soft-bristled brush handles the stubborn spots.

Westland's home office moved to Minot, North Dakota in 1928, running refineries in Cut Bank and Kevin, Montana — a genuinely regional operation whose signage and globes now turn up as some of the more distinctive northern Plains petroliana on the collector market.

The perfect gift for petroliana collectors tracking regional oil brands, classic car enthusiasts, garage and man-cave decorators, gas station history buffs, and anyone partial to a good mascot.

The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American roadside art alive, one product at a time.
