W.F. Homeyer signed on as an Amoco distributor in Gainesville, Georgia, in 1933, then decided his customers deserved a brand with a name of its own. Clipper Petroleum was built for the North Georgia fuel trade — a name meant to suggest speed and range at a time when every gallon mattered.
