Standard Oil of Kentucky lost an argument in 1911 and came out of it with a better logo. When the Standard breakup split the trust, Kyso dropped the word Red and kept the crown — and then built the whole sign into the shape of one. Navy field, orange pearls, and Crown Gasoline set in a serif that belongs on a theater marquee.

Kyso sold across Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi and had no production or refining of its own — it bought product from Standard of New Jersey and marketed it hard. The Crown brand survived until Standard of California acquired the company in 1961. Collectors sort Crown from Red Crown by the wording, since one belonged to Kentucky and the other to Indiana. This design comes from a 1980s silk screen ceramic reproduction of the original graphic, part of a set that has been in the family collection for decades.
