Nobody wore Musgo Gasoline for long. The Muskegon Oil Company operated out of Muskegon, Michigan for less than six months in the early 1920s — gone before most motorists ever saw the pump. What they left behind was a logo so striking it became the single most coveted piece of American petroliana: a Native American chief in full feathered headdress, bold enough to stop traffic from across a filling station lot.

A Musgo Gasoline distressed cap on a classic Yupoong DT600 6-panel low-profile structured crown. Adjustable slide closure, one size fits most. Distressed fabric with intentional fading — subtle frays, muted tones, a DTF-printed graphic that reads authentic rather than fresh off a shelf. Available in Stone, Light Olive, Nickel, Black, and Scotland Blue.

When Musgo went out of business, a plumber purchased the warehouse and used most of the remaining porcelain signs as septic tank lids. Collectors spent decades literally digging them up from the ground. The ones that survived — most partially destroyed by fumes — are now museum pieces. A pristine Musgo porcelain sign sold at Richmond Auctions for $1.5 million, a world record for antique advertising signs. The logo outlived the company by a century.

The perfect gift for the petroliana collector who thinks they have everything, the vintage Americana enthusiast who knows the backstory, or anyone who appreciates a brand that burned briefly and brilliantly.

The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American roadside art alive, one product at a time.
