Nobody wore Musgo Gasoline for long. The Muskegon Oil Company operated out of Muskegon, Michigan for less than six months in the early 1920s — gone before most motorists ever saw the pump. What they left behind was a logo so striking it became the single most coveted piece of American petroliana: a Native American chief in full feathered headdress, bold enough to stop traffic from across a filling station lot.

A pristine Musgo porcelain sign sold at Richmond Auctions for $1.5 million, a world record for antique advertising signs. The logo outlived the company by a century.
