An Oilzum-lubricated Stanley Steamer hit 127 miles an hour in 1906 — a land speed record, and proof of concept for one of the very first brand-name motor oils in America. White & Bagley Company developed Oilzum in 1905 out of their Worcester, Massachusetts works, aiming to solve a real problem: most motor oil sold at the time was unbranded and inconsistent.
Printed on a soft, broken-in cotton twill cap with deliberate distressing built in from day one. Unstructured, low-profile construction with a curved visor, self-fabric hideaway strap, and metal D-ring for an adjustable fit. Each hat carries slight natural variation in distress and color, so no two wear in exactly the same way. Spot clean with warm water and dish soap; a soft-bristled brush handles the stubborn spots.
The brand's first logo, a cartoon bucktooth boy, only lasted a few years before maturing into Oswald the chauffeur — the sharp-dressed, capped figure who'd carry the Oilzum name for decades and remains the version collectors actually chase today. By 1912, Crystal Oilzum, the company's dedicated racing blend, had been used in more Indianapolis 500 winning cars than any other oil on the market, with Oswald riding along as the face of every can.
The perfect gift for vintage racing enthusiasts, classic car collectors, petroliana collectors chasing early brand-name oils, garage and man-cave decorators, and motor oil history buffs.
The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American roadside art alive, one product at a time.
