Read the small type inside the yellow disc: The Petroleum Products Co., Chanute, Kansas. The same company put a Scottie dog on its Dog-On Good gasoline sign. Two marks, two entirely different moods, one refiner in southeast Kansas.

Printed on a Gildan 18500 heavy blend hooded sweatshirt — 8 oz cotton-poly, classic fit, double-lined hood with a color-matched drawcord and a front pouch pocket. Tubular knit with no side seams. Tear-away label. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low.

The center portrait is the most elaborate piece of illustration in the whole set — a full war bonnet rendered feather by feather in red, white, blue and black against chrome yellow, with two small arrowheads flanking the disc at three and nine o'clock. Chanute sat in the middle of the Kansas oil field, and a refiner that size producing artwork at this level tells you something about what signage meant to a small company competing against Standard. This design comes from a 1980s silk screen ceramic reproduction of the original graphic, part of a set that has been in the family collection for decades.

The perfect gift for the Kansas collector, the sign hunter who tracks a company across its different brands, the restorer with a shop full of mid-continent enamel, the dad who reads the city line before the brand name, and anyone who wants the most detailed piece of illustration on the wall.

The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American roadside art alive, one product at a time.
