He took his hat off for her. Uncle Sam — full stars-and-stripes suit, white hair, top hat in hand — bows to kiss Columbia’s hand while fireworks erupt behind them and a firecracker goes off at their feet. “Hurrah! For the Fourth of July — Hurrah!” This early 1900s chromolithograph captures the holiday at its most elegant — two American symbols meeting in a moment of genuine ceremony. The Faded Label Co. put it on a racerback tank.

Printed on a premium Bella+Canvas Women’s Ideal Racerback Tank — lightweight slim fit, scoop neck, tear-away label. 60% combed ring-spun cotton, 40% polyester, 4 oz/yd². DTG printed. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Available in Midnight Navy, Red, Warm Gray, and White — sizes XS through 2XL.

Columbia — the female personification of the United States — appeared alongside Uncle Sam on holiday postcards throughout the early 1900s, representing the ideals of liberty and the republic. Together the two figures were shorthand for everything the Fourth of July was supposed to mean. The artist signed this one simply “Ed” — one of the many illustrators who produced holiday postcard art for the mass market publishers of the era, their names largely lost to history but their work still circulating more than a century later.

The perfect gift for vintage Americana collectors, Fourth of July enthusiasts, lovers of early 20th century illustration and postcard art, women who appreciate genuine historical graphics, and anyone who thinks the holiday deserves a little ceremony alongside the fireworks.

The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American art alive, one product at a time.
