Waggoner Refining Co. Inc. carried the Waggoner name onto gas stations across Texas — a Hereford bull front and center on the badge, a nod to one of the largest cattle-and-oil operations the state ever produced.
This distressed trucker hat carries the Waggoner Refining Co. emblem on a low-profile, unstructured 100% cotton twill cap. Intentional distressing and a faded finish give it a broken-in feel from day one, with a self-fabric hideaway strap and metal D-ring for an adjustable fit. Available in Black, Nickel, Scotland Blue, and Stone, one size fits most.
The Waggoner name carries real Texas weight. Daniel Waggoner built one of the largest ranches in American history in North Texas, and the family struck oil on the land in 1902 while drilling for water — one of the most famous accidental oil discoveries in Texas history. Decades later, when Hollywood built the fictional “Reata” ranch house for the 1956 epic Giant, starring James Dean in his final role, the production's art director modeled the design directly on the real Waggoner Mansion in Decatur, Texas. The movie's story of cattle, oil, and Texas fortune wasn't just inspired by ranches like this one — it borrowed the house.
The perfect gift for petroliana collectors, Texas history buffs, classic film fans who know their James Dean trivia, and anyone who wants a piece of Texas oil history on their head.
The Faded Label Co. — keeping the golden age of American roadside art alive, one product at a time.
